Things That Are Making Your Immune System Weaker

Your immune system protects you from outside invaders such as bacteria, viruses and toxins, keeping us healthy and disease-free. You can make your immune system more robust by eating a healthy diet, doing regular exercise, and having quality sleep. But many things make your immune system weaker. If your immune system is weaker, your body may be prone to diseases and infections. In this blog, you will learn about the things that are making your immune system weaker.

Things to make your immune system weaker

The following things cause the weaker immune system:

     i.         Lack of sleep

Not getting enough sleep makes your body prone to viruses and germs. As a result, your body cannot fight against these germs because your body can't make infection-fighting cells and proteins known as antibodies that defend against illness. Your body releases some substances, such as cytokines, which help the immune system produce antibodies, but these substances are not released during sleep. When you don't get enough sleep, it causes the immune system to weaken.

    ii.         Anxiety

Stress and anxiety are not germed fighters. When you keep remaining anxious for only 30 minutes, it can also weaken your immune system. When you experience prolonged stress and anxiety, then the level of cortisol increase in your body, resulting in the suppression of diseases fighting cells which are T-cells and white blood cells. The deficiency of these cells in the bloodstream makes your immune system weaker over time.

  iii.         Low vitamin D

The vitamin D level in your body plays a vital role in your strong bones and healthy blood cells. In addition, it also makes strong to your immune system. The sources of vitamin D are eggs, fatty fish, fortified food, milk, and cereal. Sunlight is also a significant source of Vitamin D. When you don't take enough vitamins, the deficiency of vitamin D in your body can weaken your immune system.

iv.         Less intake of fruits and veggies

Fruits and veggies are natural sources of zinc, beta-carotene, Vitamin A, C, and E. These nutrients are essential to keep your body healthy and make more blood cells. Plant-based food is enriched with fibers which helps lower your body fat percentage, strengthening your immune system. But, when you increase the intake of fast food and fatty dishes, these all macronutrients decrease in your body and make your immune system weaker and more prone to infections.

   v.         Drinking alcohol

Drinking alcohol can also weaken your immune system because it is dehydrating and can cause inflammation. People who drink alcohol regularly are at high risk of infections, and their immunity cannot fight those germs. Furthermore, doctors declare alcohol the worst thing for immunity because it kills the white blood cells and suppresses the production of new T- cells and antibodies.

 vi.         Not getting enough exercise

According to research published in the " Journal of sports and health science," it is found that obesity and an inactive lifestyle can also make your immune system weak. People who don't get enough exercise are at high risk of diseases because their immune system is weak, and they cannot fight those disease-causing germs.

vii.         Mineral deficient diet

Poor diet, which is deficient in minerals, and vitamins can also make your immune system weaker. High sugar food, salty food, food high in Omega-6 fats, fried food, processed food, junk food, highly refined foods which are enriched with additives, and artificially sweaters may also make your immune system weak.

Conclusion

Your immune system is essential for your survival because, without your defense system, your body would be open to attack from all microbes, including bacteria, viruses, parasites, etc. So, it is vital to keep your immune system healthy and robust so that it can produce antibodies to fight against disease-causing agents. But a few things can make your immune system weaker and prone to those microbes. These things are lack of quality sleep, lack of regular exercise, inactive lifestyle, less intake of Vitamin D, prolonged anxiety, less intake of fruits and vegetables, drinking alcohol and mineral deficient foods. So, if you want to live long or prevent diseases, you should exclude everything mentioned above from your life to make your immune system strong and perform its functions effectively
